I am a dedicated Counselling Psychologist with expertise in Psychotherapy, Sport Psychology, and Lecturing. My qualifications include degrees from Rhodes University and Loughborough University, and I am a registered professional with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). As a practitioner deeply invested in the well-being of both humans and animals, my approach is holistic and compassionate. Within the realm of Counselling Psychology, I specialize in a range of modalities such as Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy. My extensive experience allows me to address a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma (PTSD), bereavement, family and relationship issues, mental health crises, substance abuse, addiction, and adjustment difficulties.

A significant focus of my practice is on Sports Psychology, where I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals ranging from school athletes to professionals across diverse sports like rugby, cricket, swimming, water polo, running, and even ballet. The goal is to enhance mental resilience, focus, and overall performance in the realm of sports.

As a Counselling Psychologist, I deal with a broad range of psychological, social, emotional and family related issues; many of which we encounter on a daily basis. This might include; depression, anxiety and other mood disorders, relationship problems, coping and stress-related issues, adjustment disorders, bereavement counselling, family relationships, academic functioning and other psychological and emotional matters.

Psychotherapy / Counselling

Sessions typically last 50 – 60 minutes and includes take, assessment, and a Therapeutic intervention relating to mental health and personal wellness. Techniques may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynmic Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

I work with presenting problems and referrals relating to anxiety, depression, trauma (PTSD), bereavement, families and relationships, mental health crises, substance abuse, addiction, and adjustment difficulties. 

Sport Psychology Presentations

I conduct presentations and workshops to coaches, parents, and athletes (from school-going to professional) on aspects of Sports Psychology such as resilience, motivation, mental skills, team cohesion, and mental toughness.

The material and format can be customised to sporting code, age-range, and organisational needs.

Workshops

I conduct workshops for parents, learners, educators, organisations, athletes, and coaches.

Based on my experience in Psychotherapy Practice, research, and teaching, I am able to present a customised program relating to mental health, adolescent & talent development, coaching, and education.

Workshops can include employee wellness interventions and staff development training.

 ​After Matriculating at Kingswood College, I completed my Undergrad, Honours and Masters (Counselling Psychology) degrees at Rhodes University. ​In 2008, I started a 1-year taught MSc degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University in the UK.

​I returned to South Africa in late 2009 and started working in Private Practice in 2011. I started working at the Rhodes University Counselling Centre in 2014 and now also supervise Counselling Psychology Masters Interns.

On a contractual basis, I lecture Undergrad students and supervise Honours, and Masters in the Psychology Department at Rhodes University. I have lectured on topics such as; ‘Mental Health & Distress’, ‘Professional Identity and Practice’, ‘Group Therapy’, ‘HIV / Aids and Mental Health’ and ‘Couples Therapy’. ​
